At Ummah Care Limited, safeguarding is central to our mission of connecting individuals and families with trusted, faith-sensitive mental health, wellbeing and support services.

We are committed to promoting the safety, wellbeing and dignity of all users of our platform. This policy explains our approach to safeguarding, how concerns can be reported, and the actions we may take where safeguarding issues arise.

Ummah Care is an online directory and information platform.

We help users discover practitioners, organisations and support services, but we do not provide healthcare, counselling, therapy, crisis intervention or safeguarding services ourselves.

We are not a statutory safeguarding authority and we are not a replacement for emergency services, social services, healthcare providers or the police.

4. Our Commitment

We are committed to:
Treating safeguarding concerns seriously.
Responding promptly to reports received through our platform.
Maintaining appropriate confidentiality.
Taking proportionate action where necessary.
Cooperating with relevant authorities where legally required.
Promoting safe and ethical professional practice.

5. Who This Policy Applies To

Practitioners listed on our platform.
Organisations listed on our platform.
Individuals submitting enquiries or reports.
Anyone interacting with Ummah Care through our services.

6. Safeguarding Concerns

A safeguarding concern may include, but is not limited to:
Abuse or neglect of a child.
Abuse or neglect of a vulnerable adult.
Sexual exploitation.
Domestic abuse.
Coercive or controlling behaviour.
Grooming.
Human trafficking or modern slavery.
Financial exploitation.
Serious self-neglect.
Harassment or threatening behaviour.
Concerns regarding practitioner conduct.
Fraudulent or misleading professional claims.

7. Immediate Danger

If someone is in immediate danger or requires urgent assistance, do not report the matter solely through Ummah Care.

Instead, you should immediately contact:
Your local emergency services.
The police.
Your local safeguarding authority.
Emergency healthcare services.
Our reporting process is not monitored as an emergency service and should never be relied upon in urgent situations.

8. Reporting a Concern

Safeguarding concerns relating to our platform may be reported by contacting:

Your name (optional if you wish to remain anonymous, although this may limit our ability to investigate).
Your contact details.
The name of the practitioner or organisation involved.
A description of the concern.
Relevant dates and times.
Any supporting evidence, such as screenshots or documents.
Please do not send unnecessary confidential medical information unless it is directly relevant to your report.

9. How We Handle Reports

When a safeguarding concern is received, we will assess the information and determine an appropriate course of action. Depending on the circumstances, we may:
Request further information.
Review the relevant listing or account.
Contact the practitioner or organisation involved.
Temporarily suspend or restrict access to a listing while enquiries are made.
Remove content that may place users at risk.
Remove or permanently suspend a practitioner or organisation from the platform.
Report concerns to relevant regulatory bodies or authorities where we are legally required or reasonably believe there is a significant risk of harm.
Each report is considered on its own merits, and actions will be proportionate to the nature and seriousness of the concern.

10. Practitioner Responsibilities

Practitioners listed on Ummah Care are expected to:
Act professionally and ethically.
Maintain any required professional registration or accreditation.
Comply with applicable safeguarding laws and guidance.
Hold appropriate safeguarding training where relevant to their role.
Maintain professional boundaries.
Treat clients with dignity and respect.
Report safeguarding concerns to the appropriate statutory authorities where required by law or professional standards.
Failure to meet these expectations may result in suspension or removal from the platform.

11. False or Malicious Reports

We encourage genuine safeguarding concerns to be reported. Knowingly making false, malicious or misleading reports may:
Delay genuine safeguarding investigations.
Harm individuals or organisations.
Result in restrictions on your use of our platform.
Lead to legal action where appropriate.
Reports made in good faith will always be treated seriously, even if concerns are ultimately not substantiated.

12. Confidentiality

We will handle safeguarding reports with appropriate sensitivity and confidentiality. However, we may share information where:
Required by law.
Necessary to protect an individual from serious harm.
Required by a court order.
Requested by a relevant regulatory or safeguarding authority.
Necessary to investigate suspected criminal activity.

Suspend accounts that present a risk to users.

These measures aim to support the integrity of the platform but should not be interpreted as guaranteeing the conduct or competence of any practitioner or organisation.

We may update this Safeguarding & Reporting Policy from time to time to reflect changes in legislation, best practice or our services. The latest version will always be published on our website.
